X-Wing Miniatures 2.0: What It Means

Fantasy Flight Games has announced X-Wing Miniatures 2.0.

Should we be surprised?

I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I’ve been with X-Wing since the first release, been collecting, playing, and tournament ever since. Being a completionist I have multiples of every ship, cards sleeved, the works.

Now all that is effectively dead.

True, there will be an APP (at some point) and conversion kits to use all my old stuff- but that is significant money paid out not on new waves and ships.

What has me more worried, is how not only the power creep is going to be accelerated, but now instead of power creep vs. waves it will be pre and post second edition. The corrections of the game (what we see so far) will naturally favor all the new ships- at the expense of the older ones.

FFG is there to sell ships, and 2.0 is the natural next step.

New players will buy into the game since they have no legacy or collection, and established players like myself will be forced to buy all over again vs. just adding a few ships here and there.

This is feeling worse then a Games Workshop reboot/40K new edition.

Some of the rules changes make sense- as they should through the game evolving, but these changes could have been made in the existing game structure- all I see is a re-buy hidden in a reboot.

Thoughts?
